Jenna Govier
Hi, I’m Jenna, and I’m a counsellor and the heart behind Sound Mind Counselling and Family Therapies.
Starting this practice has been a deeply personal journey. I know firsthand that life and relationships don’t always unfold the way we expect. My own experiences of motherhood, navigating family complexities, trauma and grief have shaped not only who I am, but also the way I understand and work with others.
I became a counsellor because I’ve always had a heart for people and a genuine interest in understanding what shapes us, how we relate to one another, and why we sometimes find ourselves stuck in patterns that are difficult to change. I believe that even in the most challenging circumstances, there is room for healing, growth and meaningful change.
My approach to counselling is warm, honest and down-to-earth. I value building genuine relationships with my clients and creating a space where difficult conversations can happen without fear of judgement. I’m not here to tell you how to live your life, but to help you better understand yourself, your relationships and the challenges you’re facing.
I have a particular interest in family therapy, couples counselling, relationship trauma and affair recovery. I enjoy working with families to better understand the patterns and dynamics contributing to conflict, helping parents and children reconnect, and supporting couples as they navigate betrayal, rebuild trust and work towards emotional safety and connection.
In addition to my counselling, I have completed professional training in the Gottman Method (Levels 1 and 2), Gottman Treating Trauma and Affairs, Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Christian counselling and trauma informed care. I’m passionate about continuing to develop my skills and understanding of relationships, attachment, trauma and family systems so I can provide thoughtful, evidence-informed support to the people I work with.
Outside of the counselling room, I’m a wife and mum to two young children. Parenthood continues to teach me so much about relationships, patience, connection and the complexities of family life.
Above all, I believe people deserve to feel heard, understood and supported, especially when life feels complicated. Whether you’re coming to counselling on your own, with your partner or as a family, my hope is that you find a space where you can be yourself, explore what’s happening beneath the surface and begin making meaningful changes.
Founder and CounsellorAngelene Cheong
Hello, I’m Angelene! I’m a Somatic and Movement Practitioner and someone who has always had a deep love for dance and movement.
Movement has been a significant part of my life for as long as I can remember. Having spent many years as a dance teacher, I’ve seen firsthand how movement can help people build confidence, express themselves and develop a deeper connection with their bodies. Over time, my passion for dance grew into a desire to help people experience movement in a different way, not through performance or getting things right, but through curiosity, awareness and connection.
I believe our bodies have so much to tell us, but in the busyness of everyday life, we don’t always have the opportunity to slow down and listen. My work is about creating that opportunity, helping people reconnect with their bodies, recognise what they’re experiencing and discover greater ease and confidence in movement.
I have a particular interest in supporting women and children, especially through times of change, stress or disconnection from their bodies. As a mum myself, I understand how easy it can be to put our own needs aside, and I’m passionate about helping women find space to reconnect with themselves. I also love working with children, using gentle, creative and playful movement to encourage body awareness, confidence and self-expression.
My approach is gentle, person-centred and trauma-informed. I recognise that everybody’s experiences, abilities and needs are different, and I believe movement should feel accessible rather than overwhelming. There is no pressure to perform, move in a particular way or achieve a certain outcome. Instead, I encourage people to explore movement at their own pace, with curiosity and choice.
Through somatic and movement-based practices, I support people to develop body awareness, explore relaxation and self-regulation, ease everyday tension and build a more comfortable and connected relationship with their bodies. These approaches may also be helpful for people living with chronic pain or navigating the physical effects of stress and trauma, where tension, discomfort or feeling disconnected from the body can become part of everyday life. Gentle, body-led movement can offer opportunities to explore sensations safely, develop a greater sense of choice and comfort, and gradually rebuild confidence in movement.
Outside of my work, you’ll often find me enjoying life with my husband and two girls or doing something that involves my lifelong love of dance.
Above all, I believe movement is so much more than something we do. It can be a way of expressing ourselves, understanding our experiences and reconnecting with who we are. My hope is to create a welcoming and supportive space where you feel comfortable exploring movement in a way that feels right for you.
